Extra Students on Roll

To find your roll in WebCT, go to the "Manage Course" area, then choose "Manage Students." You will get a list of the students. Note that this list can be sorted by any column, so if the order is confusing, you may need to click on one of the "sort" links at the top of a column.

Disabled accounts

Some, or many students, may have something like "+*" next to their WebCT ID. These student accounts are disabled and do not have access.

Automatic account uploads

The accounts that are not disabled should match the roll given by banner within a day or so.

Two ways you get disabled accounts

  1. When students are in the course, and then drop or withdraw, we disable their access, but do not delete their records in the class. This is done to prevent the loss of any student work if the student withdrawal was a mistake.
  2. If you uploaded a course from a previous term and did not reset the course, the account records from that term will still be in the course.

Deleting Disabled Accounts

You can delete the disabled accounts (or any other account, for that matter). This removes any student work and cannot be reversed, so make sure the person is really not in the class.

To delete an individual account, go to "Manage Course", then "Manage Students" and click on the individual student to get to the delete option. There are also other options in that area for selecting and deleting groups of students.

To clear the entire course, go to "Manage Course", then the "Reset Course" link on the lower right of the page. The best time to do this is immediately after uploading a course from a previous term. However, if no student work has been done, you can do this even after the "current" students have been uploaded, since the next automatic upload will restore them.
