Creating Quizzes

  1. Quizzes are created by choosing questions from a question database.
  2. To begin you must add questions.
  3. You may create them within WebCT or they may be uploaded in the form of a text file.
  4. Choose Designer Options then scroll down and choose the blue letter link for Add Page or Tool.
  5. From Evaluation Tools choose Quiz/Survey and click on the gray Add button at bottom of page.
  6. Choose a Title for the Icon of the Quiz in the box provided in #1.
  7. Choose the second check box in #2 for the default icon of the Quiz tool.
  8. Click on the gray Add button in #3.
  9. Choose the reddish link of Modify Quiz Tool.
  10. At the right side, under Questions Database choose the blue Add questions to the database link.
  11. Choose Add category under the Manage Categories heading to create a Category with a unique name to organize your question set.
  12. Click on the gray Go button.
  13. Under the Manage Question heading choose Add new question to database select a type of question from the pull-down list and Go.
  14. In the Title box of the question creation interface, be sure to choose a title which best describes the question to you. This is for your benefit of managing the question database later. A question can easily be confused later if you do not have a way to identify what the question means to you.
  15. Choose a Value % to represent what you feel the question is worth. For example, only one right answer will be indicated by a 100%.
  16. The feedback notes are revealed to the student after the quiz has been submitted for grading and the student can view the correct answers or the feedback.
  17. Be sure to scroll all the way down to choose the Save button.
  18. Once you have created all the questions for your quiz in the question database, then you are ready to create a quiz.
  19. Choose the blue link Quizzes/Surveys.
  20. Under the heading Option choose Add new quiz and Go. You then have the opportunity to add the title of the quiz which can have the same name as the quiz icon, but would be best if the category name was different as described above.
  21. Next choose the blue letter link of the quiz name listed in the left view of the screen.
  22. Under the heading Options choose Add questions and Go.
  23. In the next view you will choose the category that you created for your questions and the View category radio button and Go.
  24. Select the question individually or Mark All in the Manage Questions heading. Then choose Add question to "your quiz name" and Go.
  25. Under the Options heading choose Quiz settings and Go.
  26. Notice that the default setting under the topic Results does not release the student score. You will more then likely want to change this default.
  27. In addition, the quickest way to release the quiz for the students now is to choose Allow Access now under the Availability topic.
  28. You must now assign points to the questions and Update Total.

IMPORTANT: If you do not change the default of Release Scores you and your students will NOT be able to view their scores!A recommended Submission message or a Customize option is to post a message on the quiz to remind students to Save Answer after each answer and click on the Finish button when done, or the quiz will not be posted in the Student Management section properly.
